SELFISH is a darkly comic four-hander play about society’s relationship to motherhood and women who choose to remain childless.
When Georgia Fox accidentally falls pregnant, she’s in no doubt about what she’ll do. She’s always known she doesn’t want kids - there are enough people in the world and it’s burning. But now, as she's forced to dig into the deeper reasons for her choice, will the influence of her infertile sister, her grieving mother and her adoring partner override them? Selfish is a funny, fierce, unsolved argument about love, grief and what it means to be a woman.
Other themes include child loss, co-dependency, capitalism and climate activism.
On Friday 10 November 2023 NFP held a private industry reading of Selfish at Seven Dials Playhouse. Directed by Katie Pesskin, the reading featured Dorothy Atkinson, Kate Kennedy, Maddie Rice and Kiell Smith-Bynoe with Katherine Armitage reading stage directions.
